Water Quality Testing Lab
Ground Water is the major source of drinking water in Kerala .Ground water contamination is quite prevalent and contagious waterborne diseases have also increased substantially. Contamination of nearby water bodies customized the contamination of well water. Owing to Haritha Kerala Mission initiatives, a considerable number of rivers, streams and ponds have been rejuvenated. However, to ensure the purity of the drinking water, water quality testing labs have been set up in each higher secondary school of all local self-government bodies by Haritha Keralam Mission so as to clear off the concerns of the general public on drinking water purity.
Sanction has been granted by the Government for setting up water quality testing labs in 254 higher secondary schools in the state and so far 150 testing labs have been made operational.
The Government's policy is to set up water quality testing labs in all local government bodies. In this context, Haritha Keralam Mission has submitted project proposals for setting up water quality testing labs in higher secondary schools of local governments in the catchment areas of Pamba and Periyar rivers to the Rebuild Kerala Initiative . Sanction has been accorded for setting up of primary water quality determination labs in the remaining 313 local self-government bodies, in Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. The Haritha Kerala Mission has initiated steps to set up these labs in a war foot manner.
